New! Meet Daily Defence Sunscreen

The day has finally arrived! Say hello to Skin + Me’s latest product launch: Daily Defence Oil-free SPF 50 Sunscreen. The new kid on the (sun)block, Daily Defence is here to solve your sunscreen woes.

We sat down with Dr Jason Thomson, Head of Medical at Skin + Me, to get the low-down on your new daily skincare staple, and explore what makes it so great (spoiler alert – it’s all about actives).

Your new number one sunscreen

Active ingredients like tretinoin and azelaic acid make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, making sunscreen even more essential.

We know that the best sunscreen is the one you’ll wear every single day – summer and winter, rain or shine. At the very least, it should offer broad-spectrum UV protection (UVA and UVB protection), have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher, and should work well with the rest of your routine.

Dr Jason Thomson reminds us, “It’s in your skin’s best interest that you wear a broad spectrum sunscreen even if you aren’t going outside, as UVA light can penetrate glass and is present all year round.”

Daily Defence has all that and more. Not only does Daily Defence meet the key criteria, it’s been designed specifically to go hand-in-hand with your personalised solution. That’s because using active ingredients like tretinoin and azelaic acid will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, making sunscreen even more essential.

Why is it right for you?

“Daily Defence has SPF 50 which means you can stay out in the sun 50 times longer than you could without a sunscreen,” Dr Jason explains. “It’s also broad spectrum, which means it protects you against both UVA and UVB rays.”

Daily Defence is made with skin-loving ingredients like vitamin E and niacinamide, soothing, softening and nourishing as it protects against UVA rays which cause skin-ageing, and UVB rays which burn the skin. Both can cause skin cancer, so always remember to stay protected!

Spotlight on Daily Defence Sunscreen ingredients

SUNSCREEN FILTERS

The main event! Sunscreen filters are what make a sunscreen work. Using ingredients at the forefront of sunscreen development, Daily Defence is a chemical sunscreen.

Using UV filters to absorb and convert UV rays into heat, chemical sunscreens dry down into the skin quickly, but always need to be applied to the skin at least 20 minutes before sun exposure, for optimal protection.

VITAMIN E

Vitamin E (commonly known as tocopherol), is a super-popular ingredient found in most of your favourite skincare products. Vitamin E is usually used in oil-form – if applied on its own, it can feel quite sticky, so it’s best combined with other ingredients to smooth it out.

Why is it used in sunscreen? Because Vitamin E has been shown to reduce the number of sunburn cells and limit the potential damage associated with UVB radiation from sunlight. Vitamin E can also help tackle photodamage and can reduce redness and inflammation.

It’s also a barrier-strengthening antioxidant that works to reduce the early signs of skin-ageing, the development of dark spots and damage to your skin’s DNA.

NIACINAMIDE

We’re very familiar with niacinamide here at Skin + Me, as it’s a core ingredient in our personalised treatments to treat every single one of our skin goals. We love it so much that putting it in our sunscreen felt like a no-brainer.

A form of Vitamin B3, niacinamide supports a healthy, more radiant complexion and tackles a myriad of skin concerns, from oil regulation to boosting cell rejuvenation and more.
