pretty tiring. Whether you\u2019re only just about getting enough sleep, juggling childcare, working hard, or doing all three at once, sometimes tiredness can show up on your skin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s perfectly normal and there&#8217;s nothing wrong with it \u2013 who hasn&#8217;t felt like their skin is a little lacklustre when they&#8217;re short on sleep? But how can you minimise the impact? <br><br>We asked Dr Malvina Cunningham, Consultant Dermatologist at Skin + Me, about her best fixes for tired skin. We may not be able to give you back that lost hour of shuteye, but we can help you look like you didn\u2019t need it in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\"><strong>Start from within<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthy skin can be boosted from within, so it\u2019s crucial to look after yourself from the outside before you start on the inside. Dr Malvina emphasises the importance of not drinking too much alcohol, never smoking and having a healthy balanced diet. Make sure you\u2019re also drinking enough water, as dehydrated skin can be a reflection of a dehydrated body. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although easier said than done, finding ways to reduce your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skinandme.com\/the-dose\/does-stress-affect-my-skin\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1092\">stress levels<\/a> can also help. Your stress hormones can have a big impact on your skin, so take the time to talk through your problems, do some journaling and enjoy some light exercise when you can. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\"><strong>Protection is key<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We all know we should be wearing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skinandme.com\/the-dose\/myth-buster-top-sunscreen-myths-plus-do-spf-tablets-and-aftersun-work\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3107\">sunscreen <\/a>every day (yes, every day, even in the UK), but did you know that UV damage can actually make your skin appear dull? So your sunscreen doesn&#8217;t just protect your skin from harmful UV rays \u2013 it\u2019s also protecting you from tired-looking skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always use a separate sunscreen as the last step in your morning routine \u2013 just before your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skinandme.com\/the-dose\/all-about-the-base-your-guide-to-makeup-multitaskers\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4955\">makeup <\/a>(if you wear any). Work it into your skin and remove with a soft cotton pad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Malvina then recommends choosing a gentle gel or foaming cleanser that doesn\u2019t make your skin feel tight or irritated. Start with your active ingredients slowly and titrate up depending on your skin tolerance, and if you can\u2019t tolerate a particular active ingredient don\u2019t use it. There are plenty of others with benefits so that you don\u2019t need to feel like you are missing out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regularly moisturising will also help to keep your skin barrier in check  (more on that in a second), and a gentle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skinandme.com\/the-dose\/how-to-build-a-skincare-routine\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3629\">routine<\/a> that supports your skin rather than strips it will help. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ditch the heavy moisturisers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re guilty of always opting for the thickest, richest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skinandme.com\/the-dose\/skin-and-me-cleansers-and-moisturisers-with-dermatologist-and-head-of-medical-dr-jason-thomson\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2821\">moisturiser<\/a>, no matter the weather and your skin type, you might be doing your skin more harm than good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Malvina says that using heavier moisturisers than you need can make your skin appear dull.
